You can either take your pick from these two alternatives, or do them both, depending on our mood or sense of adventure!

ROSS FARM is the more lad back of the alternatives. The farm is a living museum of agriculture that gives visitors a glimpse of the part agriculture played in Nova Scotia’s past 150 years ago when time was not such a factor in our lives. There are many living, working animals on the farm, including the ever-popular oxen that cultivate the land, harvest crops and move unbelievably heavy objects.

See how yarn was spun, barrels made, maple sugar processed, and candles were made. The staff are on hand to demonstrate and to answer questions and take great delight in doing so.

Ross Farm is about an hour’s drive from Oceanstone.

TIDAL BORE RAFTING

For those with a sense of adventure, it is hard to beat this!

The massive Minas Basin, with its unbelievable surge of tides, finds its way into several of Nova Scotia’s smaller rivers, often creating a large tidal wave when it does so. To ride this up river in a raft is, to say the least, exhilarating, and provides one with a first hand sense of just how powerful these unique waters are, and how far down into the earth’s crust they have carved their waterways.

While this looks dangerous, it is perfectly safe and a source of tremendous excitement for kids.

At our Front Desk Travel Information Station you can get advice on the best times to go (the tidal bore is higher at some times than at others) and we can make reservations for you if you wish.
