That’s what the place is for. That’s what vacations are for. And that is why we are here: to look after the little things while you unwind.

Massage anyone? Or perhaps a soaking in our whirlpools or hot tubs…

Or a little time by the ocean, a favorite pastime of kids and adults alike, despite the many channels they have to choose from on television (65 at last count). Let the spirit of the sea wash over you, for its sounds and smells delight the senses. See The Mystery and Magic of the Ocean for reasons why you might wish to consider this.

Many a poet’s pen has tried to capture the essence of its magic, its moods, its colors. But it remains mysterious and evasive…and calming…but always alluring, endlessly fascinating, ever-changing.

Our sandy beach is a great place to spend a lazy afternoon. Sometimes our guests swim here, but the Atlantic is never what you would call warm. The beach is fun to explore, though, for shells, or little creatures, or the host of things that get washed in by the sea each day.

One might also choose to just sit, and watch the numerous seabirds  that come and go, or occasional seals, porpoises, mink and the colorful little fishing boats that ply our waters in search of fresh fish  or the lobster for which our area is so well known. (Both are available in our dining room).

Kayaks are provided for your pleasure, rentable at modest prices, along with life jackets.  These are fun as they can be used to explore our little harbour, or the small neighbouring islands, or the Paddy’s Head lighthouse that graces the opposite shore. Family picnics on the islands are great fun.

A stroll through our gardens is always refreshing, always relaxing. They are totally organic, and have been for some fifteen years now. Guests who like to do their own cooking are welcome to pick our fresh herbs for that purpose.

Indoor amusements, including games, audio and video tapes, are all available free of charge. We have a comprehensive library of tapes on body, mind and spirit, also available free of charge.

Books are a passion of ours at Oceanstone, and delightful ones abound on our shelves and in our cottages. We even have our own small publishing house Oceanstone Press, the most recent work incorporating the comments and thoughts of many of the fascinating guests who have stayed with us.

The coffee’s always on! We are fond of saying that the guests who come to Oceanstone are among the most interesting people in the world. Often, they meet each other in the comfort of our Great Room or front lobby. Your choice: relax in the quiet of your own surroundings, or meet and mingle with the many interesting people who come here from all over the world.

And don’t forget the Sunsets at Oceanstone: they can be breathtaking. Watching the sun go down, simple as it may sound, is one of the most popular pastimes around here. Our cottages face west, so one can partake of this relaxing and renewing exercise on the beach, or in the comfort of one’s deck.

Bonfires on the beach or in front of the cottages are fun at night and the stars above are among the most beautiful anywhere.
