Something different happens when you are at Oceanstone..
And over the last ten years, thousands of people have experienced it.
However one wants to say
it, (as our guests have been telling us for years) the chaos and confusion of a busy world fall away, and,
bathed in the fresh air, the majesty and the magic of the open Atlantic, or the delicate
perfume of
our flower gardens, or charmed by the sweet song of a bird, people
become...well...they become people
once more, and relate to each other accordingly: there is
more laughter
in the air and even people who do not know each other smile and say
good morning...just like it used to be. (See our "SOUL"
page for more detail and some fascinating stories, or visit our Guestbook to hear our visitors' take on this.)
Oceanstone has become, you see, the
kind of
place our family always wanted it to be: an oasis in a world stuck
in fast forward: a natural and stunningly beautiful place of
renewal where our guests can reconnect to the natural world, to
themselves, and to each other. It's a place where good old fashioned
Nova
Scotia hospitality can still find its place in a high tech world stuck
in fast forward.
* That's why we always keep the coffee and the tea
on. (And it's free.)
* That's why we don't have environmentally
unfriendly air conditioners, but cool our rooms with fresh breezes off
the open Atlantic.
* That's why we are proud of our rating stars, but much prefer the ones in the night sky.
Comfortably Natural:

You see, Oceanstone is not only
comfortably natural, it is naturally comforting: it's
a little bit of life as it could be, as it should be; as in
many ways life used
to be.
We see it all the time.
Our
grounds are all natural and have been for 15 years. We use, wherever
possible, only natural ingredients for cleaning, gardening, etc. And we
use no artificial sprays or perfumes: our air is fresh off the
Atlantic, and so soporific that our guests frequently comment that
they can't wait to go to bed at night. Our gardens are completely organic,
and our chefs incorporate (when possible) their fresh ingredients as
well as other local organic Nova Scotian products into their
offerings.
Groups and Weddings:
Away
from all distractions and the
noisy persuasions of the modern world, groups find
more
interpersonal comfort and cohesion and get
more productive thinking done; weddings become much more celebratory when they unfold in the
natural embrace of sea and sky, and on our quiet days, in our tranquil corners,
guests
continue to be awed by the gentle touch of their
surroundings, the
intoxicating
beauty of the landscape, and the
sweet sense of serenity that washes over them.
It's
all about the ocean, the land...and
the people!
It's the ocean that makes the difference. For it has formed our land and shaped our people. (Click HERE for more
on the ocean's mystique).
Our Chefs' Creations:
It is here, on the shores of the open Atlantic that our chefs celebrate the bounty of the ocean,
our own gardens, and Nova Scotia’s
lush farmland with a host of creations: a succulent meal of
cooked
lobster fresh from our local waters served with drawn butter might
attest to
this fact, especially when paired with a glass of chilled L’Acadie
Blanc,
produced with the greatest of care here in Nova Scotia’s own Annapolis
Valley.
Or, if you prefer, you can, in your own way, close to the crashing
surf,
prepare your own meals in the comfort
of your own fully equipped cottage or suite, complete with some salad
greens, perhaps, from our organic gardens. Or you can call us if
you want lobster
and we can get it
for you live or cooked fresh. Not to mention the wine!

To
help you deepen your
experience, and to enhace your connection to the land and its people,
we provide, should you wish it, owr own ecoconcierge
service. Kayak, hike or just explore, and our ecoconcierge can
provide a variety of services that will enhance your trip.

Oceanstone or in the area.
Come
to the Light!
The
Peggy's Cove Light,
that is, (a five minute drive). Or, perhaps you prefer to just rest easy at our place and
watch the dancing light
on the ocean wavelets (diamonds we call them), or the sparkling stars
in the night sky. You may even find some "light" on our bookshelves
(lots of people have), depending on what kind of light you are
looking for. Or you might find solace and a comfortable
closeness to nature in the tranquility
of the
Peggy's Cove Preservation Area (a breathtaking seaside open terrain walking
distance from our place).
And then, rested and refreshed, you might want to visit Halifax,
Lunenburg
,
the world famous Fundy
Tides, or other
major attractions, all within easy driving
distance. If you are touring the area, there is plenty to do with an easy drive home to Oceanstone at night.
At day's end, enjoy one of our spectacular sunsets and then
fall back into the sweet and relaxing embrace of our...
Charming
Oceanfront Cottages:

We
built them in a traditional Nova Scotia style, and added the most
comfortable beds and furnishings we could find. Each cottage has its
own character, much of the furniture hand crafted by local
artisans. Each has its own unique view:
each assures privacy. And each looks out over some of the most
beautiful,
unspoiled ocean scenery Nova Scotia has to offer, all set in the
historic old
village of Indian Harbour, less than forty minutes from metro Halifax.

Relax.
And rest easy...
Dive deeper into the
pool of relaxation and have
a massage from one of our registered massage therapists. Call our front
desk at
1-866-823-2160 for details or make an appointment when you book.
Ahhhhh.

And all the while, at your
door, the ever changing, always soothing sea...
Majestic, magic, and wondrous.
Intoxicatingly lovely, and revitalizing. There really is
nothing quite like the shores of the open Atlantic. If you
have a minute, and are up for a little reading adventure, click
HERE to learn more
about the neurological resonance and the charm of the ocean
that washes the shores at our back door. It's an interesting story.

Getaways, Vacations and...
The Nova Scotia Experience

Lineups, lineups, lineups.
Let's
face it: the world has become a bit of a crazy
place: fast paced and
foot-to-the-floor: all of us swamped with
emails, ringing cell phones, standing in endless lineups, gasping for air and
sometimes, even, a kind word.
Not here.
Sometimes
we think it's the place that makes the people. Other times,
the
people (our guests) who make the place. Either way, Oceanstone is an
escape where you can step out of one world, and into
another...and
take from this one what you want: contemplative solitude if you wish
it, camaraderie if you are in the mood (our guests are the greatest and
they come from all over the world) , or you may prefer
to browse
our special bookshelves for the harvest of life-giving wisdom they
contain.
Then again, you may wish to
use Oceanstone as home base and explore this part of Nova
Scotia. If so, see our Seven Days of Suggestions for
some interesting travel ideas. (BACK)
